Game Situations
One can have Olympic level skating skills and have a magic touch, but that means nothing if you cannot use it in the team game. Hockey games develop every year, it gets faster and more intense and for that reason you must develop your game IQ, which means you must learn and make fast and smart decisions on ice. Every training session I try to challenge the players and ask for their dedication in return. I can teach the skills and show some tricks, but it is up to the player to take responsibility and put in the effort to develop. During the session we try to create real game scenarios, creating urgency, intensity and pace of the game situations to allow us to feel the speed of the offensive and defensive moments. Going through the different types of game situations makes it easier for them to make smart decisions in the game.
